Amarone, the king of Valpolicella wine, was born from a mistake. It is said that until just over 100 years ago, in Valpolicella, only a sweet wine was produced with dried grapes, the Recioto. A barrel of this wine was forgotten, so the fermentation that was blocked to obtain the sweet wine, instead, continued. The result was a wine no longer sweet, more alcoholic & very dry. Hence the name, “Amarone.
